I really like summer in Vancouver. One of the reasons I like it is because it reminds me of ASSIST last year, which was, for me, the perfect introduction to UBC and Canada. I loved those excitement-filled days and the joy of exploring a new, beautiful city, and meeting amazing people from all over the world.
Now that it is summer again and all my classes have ended, I have more time to wander around and discover some of the gems of this city - including the beaches. And speaking of beaches, as of two days ago, I have officially swam in the ocean! It was cold (as in, 16 degrees Celsius cold), but very refreshing. One thing I really like about Vancouver is that it doesn't get too hot in the summer - and you don't get the smog and haze that some other large cities have. It's a great feeling to be able to lie on the beach and look up at the clear, cloudless, brilliantly blue sky. And guess what - in just a little over a month, we will all be enjoying this delightful city together!
I realise that this post is desperately needing photos, but I unfortunately don't have my camera cable with me right now. I'll try to upload them next week. Stay tuned for pictures of beautiful Vancity!

Hi, my name is Dzifa I just finished my second year at UBC in the Sauder school of Business. I am one of your Residence advisors. This is my third year with the ASSIST program and I absolutely love it!! You will know why soon. I am from Ghana in West Africa and love being an international student at UBC. I can be quite spontaneous, if you need some adventure come see me. I love dancing, meeting real people and having a nice chat. If you want to know more about me come see me.

Welcome to UBC! My name is Robyn Plasterer and I am the Residence Coordinator for ASSIST this year. As a third year student, I spend exorbitant amounts of time writing papers for Human Geography (Major) and African Studies (Minor). Even though I was born and raised in British Columbia, I used to study at a Japanese University – so don’t be afraid to share your crazy and wonderful experiences as an international student with me! After two years here on campus, I have grown to love UBC and Vancouver. When I’m not off skiing in Whistler or hiking in nearby forests, I’m volunteering, hanging out at local cafes, or perusing Granville Island. I love taking trips to the theatre, eating chocolate, and going for “long walks on the beach”.

I’m a second year student in the Faculty of Arts, and as a participant of last year’s ASSIST programme I’m really excited to be part of it once again! We’ll be doing so many cool things, such as exploring beautiful Vancouver, and going hiking in spectacular settings, and I’m ueber stoked to meet all of you in just a few days! - Hi everyone! My name is Sonja and I am going into second year Science at UBC. My parents are originally from Serbia, but I have spent most of my life in Kuwait. I’m really excited to be here at UBC in Canada and I think British Columbia is definitely one of the most beautiful places in the world. I like all the cultural diversity that we have here and I am very excited to get to know you and find out about your background! Some of my hobbies include travelling all over BC, ballet, First Nations art, volunteering on and off-campus, baking, and sipping soy lattes. And, most importantly, meeting wonderful people such as yourself!
